They've taken away all of Cookie Monster's cookies (well, except for ONE).

And it's sung by Hoots the Owl and a banana, some grapes, a pineapple and an apple. (And, yes, it too is a parody -- this one based on "Porgy and Bess's" "A Woman Is a Sometime Thing").

So Cookie eats his fruit (not the singing ones, of course) enthusiastically. But at the end, he wants his cookies. And gets them.

Well, one.

There is such a thing as going too far. We all watched Cookie Monster eat cookies and didn't end up fat little kids. Childhood obesity is not a problem Sesame Street can take care of.

What's a Cookie monster without his cookies? Cookie monsters don't eat fruit! Just one cookie? Cookie monsters rip open entire packs and shove all of them into their mouths! This is sad. I shudder to think of what they are doing to Oscar the Grouch. He was my favorite.

I think I heard a couple of years ago that they did "happy" him up. Which also sucks.

There was this quasi-right winger on the Daily Show the other night that was talking about how we're creating a culture of uber-protection around our kids when it's the last thing they really need, and I'm tempted to agree with her. She's talking about how they've eliminated dodgeball in schools and replaced it with a game where everyone talks about how much they like everyone else and "no one loses". Gah. What are these kids going to do when they grow up and find out people totally loose?

Holy crap,....really? If I were going through elementary school now, I would have never made it out without seeing a school shrink and having
a couple of prescriptions for mood enhancing drugs.

And dodge ball was the second favorite game I played in school. The first favorite was smear the queer, but even in Iowa the teachers would step in if they saw us playing that one. Possibility was too great someone would get seriously hurt.

well that's the weird thing - i don't think any of us would. And why can't any parents who are medicating their kids see that? UGH.
