Texas starts arresting people for being drunk So when are they going to start arresting dove hunters who are intoxicated?
Is Bush planning on nuking Iran? Wow, he is nuts.
Picture of a monkey petting a cat. AWWWWWWW......
50s scare film clip Beware the evil homosexual who tries to seduce you! They're everywhere!
UCSC Students Against War protest Look, they made the evil recruiters leave! YAY!
Iran joins the nuclear club? They are getting kind of uppity. They should at least test one first before they start saying they are in the nuclear club.....
Origins of the "Obey Giant" art movement. They originally came from They Live with Rowdy Roddy Piper
Also, Free Books from Baen! Free Science Fiction ebooks - get 'em here.
OH! The coolest thing EVA (for geeky people like me): Samuel Delany's Radio Play. It's all 70's sci-fi with the weird flute music, but still, really amazing to hear one of his short stories dramatized.

How're you? I keep meaning to email to check in since I'm not around LJ that much lately, but I keep getting distracted by other things . . . like writing.

Date: 2006-04-13 06:02 am (UTC)And I'm good - a little lost post-tests and a little buried with the end of the semester coming up like a freight train, you know? Don't worry about the emails - I'm bad with them too - for some reason comments always seem like they go faster (which makes no sense, I know). I was worried to hear about your family stuff - wish I had *any* advice but it just sounds like a whole lot of stress. *hugs* Thanks for checking in, sweetest. I hope the writing is going well!?

Date: 2006-04-13 05:56 am (UTC)PS - the Rowdy Roy Piper link to Obey Giant was just speculation on my part. But the artwork is very very similar to what was in the movie when Roy puts on the special shades that lets you see all of the hidden messages the evil aliens controlling humanity placed under advertisements: FUCK, OBEY, CONSUME,.... I think I'm right though - although the artist who originally came up with it might be pissed if someone thought inspiration for his movement came from a Grade-B horror movie from the late-80s.
Oh - what did you think of "The Star Pit"? That's like my favorite story of Delany's. His voice is so different than what I was imagining though.

Date: 2006-04-13 06:00 am (UTC)and ah, for some reason I thought you'd gotten that from the website - funny. It does sound like it makes sense though. But you're probably right about them being pissed - i might have to go back and edit that.
Oh, and I havent' listened to all of it, but The Star Pit is pretty fucking cool. Sam's voice is so *young*!!! It's crazy.

Date: 2006-04-13 06:01 am (UTC)to sign a petition to tell people in Washington that nuking Iran is ...ummm...kind of a bad idea:
http://political.moveon.org/dontnukeiran/?id=7311-3866348-6Trr1xR7cOuhx7IIrh2HvA&t=2
That will put you in the same revolutionary company as most of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (some of whom will probably resign if they actually go through with this).
Cannot believe it's even being discussed....
