no good very bad day

i sent myself a package from Japan - an entire box of magazines and books, including one library book I couldn't fit in my own luggage (because i was worried about weight limits).

Got a package from Japan today that clearly had my packing label on it, but was half the size. I'm missing said library book, half of a two volume first edition of Komatsu Saikyo's Japan Sinks, and a bunch of materials that are probably irreplaceable.

I'm bummed. and broke.

and for some reason my dog decided today that she was going to pee on the floor of my house. i have hardwood, so it's not the disaster it could be, but why did that happen?

we're in the middle of a heat wave too, and i don't have air conditioning.

and i rolled over my kindle charger with the vaccuume cleaner yesterday, and it ate off the plastic coating, so i'm afraid to charge my kindle.

i'm ready for this day to be over.

OMG lady, thank you so much! i actually went and bought one from amazon that should arrive today or tomorrow just because i can't live without my kindle for long. but the offer (and the sympathy) is MUCH APPRECIATED! *hugs*

thanks for the hugs and the well wishes lady - things have been getting better.

and sadly no, there's really not much i can do. i paid for the cheap shipping from Japanese postal service - the slow boat, literally. My guess is somewhere in transit my actual box got crushed or something and everything fell out, and so whoever discovered it packed up as much as they thought was in there, retaped it with my label, and sent it onwards. on the glass half full side, at least i got something instead of the package disappearing into the ether (which apparently has happened to other grad students in the department)
