i am also confused as to why it needed to be 'fixed'? but i'm very very glad i use dreamwidth and only wish i could get my formatting from DW to move over to LJ entirely.

HI! i know, it has! i sadly haven't been posting much because i've been in a slump again. Japan is pretty much in the same place it was as soon as I got the news - I've got partial funding, and the department is trying to make a deal with the host school or something to work out the finances, but no real word yet. Exciting holding pattern is so fun!

I understand the slump. I get bitten by that too, and then when I catch up on my flist, I'm like, "damn, I should post something..." LOL

So, if everything does work out, when are you leaving? And is this the same university that you were at last summer?

Yeah, it's like, I call my dad every couple of weeks to check in, but both of us have these pat responses now - "same thing as last week, lots of studying, reading books" that kind of thing.

And I'll be going in September - it is the same place i went for summer last year, just their year program. I have to find different housing just cuz that place was more for shorter stays than full year (well, Sept-June), but the good part is knowing the school and its surroundings already :D

Dads and daughters have amazing short hand. My dad and I rarely if ever just talk on the phone, mostly just quick updates or "I'm on my way over." Now he texts, so even that is a rare thing.

Ah, so you aren't doing the summer programme then. That's cool, already knowing the place. :) What a great opportunity!

Ugh, I don't get it either. I'm starting to wonder if the developer is a time traveller from 1999 and they don't realise that clipart and wingdings aren't cool anymore. Not even in a retro sense. I also want to know what LJ has against basic functionality.

I know, right? And possibly that time traveler theory isn't so far off - it would be a better explaination than what seems to be the 'well, we want to change things to make it easier on ourselves, but not actually easier for the users' (though i kind of thing the latter is the real attitude).

The tough part is now being on Dreamwidth for long enough to be like 'ewwwh. why????!' everytime LJ makes a dumb change. Every change I've seen on DW has been like, 'wow, yay! cool!'

Yeah, I sadly think that's the case too in light of the "I don't like subject lines, I'll get rid of them for the entire user base, they'll get used to it," from igrick. I'll honestly be surprised if they listen to the 10 pages or so of people saying "I don't like it/it doesn't display."

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to soon being able to afford some paid DW time. :D

I agree with the person who said it was to better explain to newbies what the cut-tag they were seeing was. Miraculously at least a million people figured it out before now, but hey, that was before the site was catering to casual readers instead of account owners.

Someone on the flist actually suggested it wasn't so much newbie education as it was trying to differentiate between real cuts and fake cuts to another site.

I have to say, as far as newbie logic / casual user logic goes, it's not as if the weird scissors + ellipsis model is iconographically or web-"standardly" intuitive. They are still going to look at that and go 'wtf???' until someone explains it to them.

I really don't like the new cuts either. They also have a "spoiler tag" which works like a cut even within the entry, but has no close up tag at the bottom like our cuts do. So if the spoiler cut is long, you're stuck with it till you refresh the page.

Where are you having formatting issues, lovely? I assume you crosspost by default - are you using the RTE or handwriting the html?

i meant formatting in the sense that DW has better cut tag functionality and i wish it could replace LJ's dumbness, not that i was having issues darling - not to worry!

I really wish they'd implement cross-site reading already, so I never have to visit lj, but apparently there were a bunch of issues with that (many originating on lj's end, heh). But yes, I totally agree. I still visit a few comms on lj, and the more time I spend here, the more stupid things I find with their set-up.
