3 random things from the day

did you know there are black carrots?  They are not a joke - no, they are one of six ingredients in the black cherry italian spritzer we bought tonight (apparently used for their color).

While walking the dog tonight at 11:15 pm, I was cruised.  I mean the car slowed, pulled over beside me and the dog, and the guy had his window open and tried to talk to me.  Of course I laughed and kept walking.  Trust me, I am not the kind of person you'd cruise, even on a Sunday.  Especially not on dog walks when I'm in tight sweats (not the glamorous kind - more the kind that show I have ... norweigan hips and ass), a sports bra, a t-shirt I've used for painting, with my hair tied in a greasy ponytail.  I have no idea what in the heck the guy thought he was doing.  Domino, luckily, was completely unperturbed (which in my book is better than having her freak out).

I'm very glad I figured out how to deal with the remotes before Neil left for LA, otherwise I'd feel cut off at the knees.  A whole media center and no one to play with it - it would probably end up feeling neglected too.

Did you know that purple was the original colour of the carrot, but it was selectively bred out of (most of?!) them because orange seemed more palatable/funky/etc. It's only just now that Scientists are managing to go back to the original colour.

God knows how I know that. I must've read it somewhere. It's exactly the kind of useless information I keep in my brain. It probably ejected some extremely important fact or other...

I did know this! I found it out last night looking for a black carrot. The evolution of veggies seems to actually be pretty crazy.

and it's ok, i have wonderfully useless stuff in my brain that pushes out simple things like my own phone number. you're in good company darling!

Haha, do you know, i have lived here a month and still have no idea how their dvd player works? I just use the laptop... So lame.

My dog would have semi-freaked in that situation. (Especially now. She's highly protective of me now that I'm spawning.) She doesn't mind when we run across other dog walkers that want to chat, or even just other dogs and/or people, but if someone pulls up in a car - even someone we know - she sits down and growls. That's an example of threat assessment, I think. (Cars = the bigger threat, vs. people walking.)

It's good that your puppy is smart enough to be protective of you! I think Domino, at this point, seems to see most cars as devices for fun since they take her interesting places (although she is terrified of big bus things)

3. Remotes are evil. Direct TV sent me a new box and remote with all kinds of cheerful of literature about new systems and tech and blah blah. I sent it back.

3. ewww. i have to say this is why i am glad to hand the electronics over to someone else. i would prefer to do a spell and have the house gnomes be more responsive, but they seem to have abandoned me this season.

heee! and they make purple kale too, i think! i would *SO* eat that salad.

i'm actually glad there's more purple in the world - my mom and i used to use this cookbook called 'the rainbow diet' where you tried to get every color of the rainbow on your plate in one form or another - but purple was *really* hard to find unless you counted beets or blueberries (we did)
