My Unpopular Opinions
Apr. 5th, 2008 01:19 pmYou guys are actually curious!? Thank you!
sl_podcast asked about Buffy:
I thought Tara was a totally creepy stalker for most of Season 4. The whole "peeking out from between her hair" thing, combined with her instant adoration for Willow made me think she was going to go insane at any moment and lock Willow up in a closet she couldn't escape from. (It's only post-show, through
elizabuffy and through fanfic that I've reconsidered that.)
Now, this is just at odds with my flist, but I MUCH prefer Jonathan to Andrew. By like, times a billion.
I really really wanted Riley/Willow.
I liked Buffy having the angry!dirty!sex with Spike, until it was less bout angry!dirty!fun and more about woe is me (which, I think, may have been an interval of less than one episode). But I love the idea of dirty!angry!sex on tv, and I loved the idea of Buffy just wanting.
khaoschilde asked about Scrubs:
Ak! I put this one in here and I'm not sure if my opinions are unpopular or not. But no, I definitely don't hate Dr. Cox, don't worry.
I do, however, kind of despise Carla. I just don't think she adds much and I'm a little bored by much of her scenes/story lines.
aesiron asked about Firefly and Angel
Firefly: I never thought Mal/Inara were the perfect couple - I like them separately, but Mal is way to mysoginistic for me to be comfortable with the way he treats her. They are not star-crossed lovers.
Angel: Oh boy. The Kate storyline was stupid. The Connor storyline was stupid (the only good that came out of it was scruffy-Wes). The taking over Wolfram and Hart storyline was the biggest mistake of them all, and completely annoying. I'm not actually sure if these are unpopular, but I firmly believe them.
I never got the fuss about Fred (and not just because I like Gunn/Wes, because I hadn't even thought of the pairing until years later). But Fred as a love interest for either man was just too pat.
soft_princess asked about CSI
I don't like Brass. I don't understand about people who love him (sorry guys).

Date: 2008-04-05 07:41 pm (UTC)Amen to Johnathan!
I never liked Fred either, though early Gunn/Fred was kinda cute. I am totally with you on the Connor thing (though daddy!Angel was dorkalicious and mmmmmm scruffy-Wes, yes please).

Date: 2008-04-07 01:05 am (UTC)The only part I actually kinda liked about Daddy!Angel was his getting closer to Cordy, but hey, this is why it's an unpopular opinion ;)

Date: 2008-04-05 08:01 pm (UTC)Scrubs: I like Carla. Elliot is probably my least favorite regular.
Firefly: I think the misogyny was mostly out of frustration. He wanted her but couldn't have her and was jealous that she slept with other people for money. That's my interpretation, anyway, and I agree that they aren't star-crossed lovers. Of course, I tend to not care for any Big Relationships, especially on Joss shows. The only one I actually liked were Willow's.
Angel: I think everyone hated Connor. :p And while I didn't care much about Kate, I wish she would have showed up again later. It didn't feel resolved.
I think S5 was the best of the bunch so I don't mind them taking over Wolfram and Hart and like Fred well enough, too.
My most unpopular opinion is probably that I really liked Gwen.

Date: 2008-04-07 01:09 am (UTC)Re: scrubs - I think elliot is probably most people's least fav regular, cuz she's a little whiny, no?
Firefly: yeah, the problem with Joss' BRs is that they're all fated to be drama tastic. I think also, Joss was familiar with the western conventions and trying to find a way to do a new take on the hooker with a heart of gold, but it didn't come out as good as it could have.
Angel: no, I know people who love connor! but maybe that's just my flist? And you're right about the Kate thing, she should have totally showed up again, but that whole storyline was so angsty and mistrustful right from the start ....
I didn't mind Gwen, so at least we're sorta in line there!

Date: 2008-04-05 08:33 pm (UTC)Also, I agree with you re: Tara. I don't actually like her character much, if at all. I don't get why people do, besides the fact that I guess the lesbians on my flist just liked the idea of having a lesbian in the show, perhaps?

Date: 2008-04-07 01:13 am (UTC)What I like about Tara now (that sort of reflectively colors my rewatching of the show) is that she has that whole strength-even-though-she-doesn't-come-off-as-strong thing going. She was smart (all those Willow/her in-jokes) but not obviously nerdy, she let Glory mind-blast her, she finally got away from her evil family, she actually was a sympathetic ear to Buffy with the whole "i came back wrong" and "i'm fucking spike" thing. I think it's kind of nice to have a woman who can do the nonjudgemental thing. She may not make the best choices in her own life, but she doesn't condemn others, ya know? But that's all retroactive. And

Date: 2008-04-07 11:08 am (UTC)Besides which, I still get my canon-CSI-couple kicks outta CSI: NY. Eeee, Montana and Danny are SO AWESOME. *ahem* No-one else on my flist wants to squee with me about CSI: NY or CSI: Miami, so occasionally it just pops out like that. HEE.
RE: Tara... see, I see where you're getting at (although I can't remember any eps where Buffy was like "WTF, I am screwing Spike, WTF Tara!" but hey I'm sure there were some, my memory for those seasons is mainly "Mmmmm, nekkid Spike. RAR." more than anything else, heh!) but I still think that as a canon character, not a EU one, Tara is just... boring.
(Also, it still shocks me some people don't like the whole Angel-and-his-team-take-over-Wolfram-and-Hart thing, because this is when ANGSTY GORGEOUS WESLEY happens. Hmm!)

Date: 2008-04-05 09:17 pm (UTC)On the other hand, Greg, Grissom and Nick are awesome. (possibly all naked in bed together too)
I liked Connor in season 5. I thought his storyline in s3 and 4 was... well, yeah, kinda stupid. (though I do adore the actor and think he did an awesome job with the character)
As much as I *adore* Andrew, and I do a lot, Jonathan rocked.

Date: 2008-04-07 01:24 am (UTC)And I really like the actor who played Connor too. And to be honest, even though I didn't like the storyline, there were definitely some episodes and scenes that still worked, you know?
You and Mir are going to totally perv me on Andrew - I can just see it happening - but yeah, as far as the actual show went... Jonathan all the way. I didn't want him to die :(

Date: 2008-04-05 11:59 pm (UTC)No. They're not. There is attraction there, but nothing that would last. They're just too different. To give up her career would change everything Inara has made herself into, and Mal would never be able to accept her continuing to be a Companion while sharing his bed.
I cannot stand Andrew. Willow's quiet acceptance of his presence never sat well with me.
My unpopular CSI opinion is that I never liked Sara. Not even a little.

Date: 2008-04-07 01:25 am (UTC)seriously!! he can't even stand it when she's not in his bed. But it did make for nice sexual tension from time to time. And I like them both seperately, just not together.
And I think not liking Sara is more popular than you might think, since you're the second person to tell me that (and since I didn't even write it down because I thought no one liked her *grin*)

Date: 2008-04-06 01:02 am (UTC)Buffy: I was kind of weirded out by Tara at first, but that very quickly grew to unfathomed depths of love and ended in tears. Of course, it could have been fuelled my intense and undying love of Willow, who i always liked best, from her geekiest days. Possibly because she reminded me so much of me. Bless Willow.
I don't like ANY of the Trio, at odds with all my friends, i think they're the lamest supervillians in history and the worst possible Big Bad. Seriously, it got to the point where hearing their whiny little voices made me want to hurl things at the screen. Violent child, i am. But i initially went AWWWW at Jonathan (back with the award) and i kind of liked Andrew at the very end of S7, because he made me giggle.
I never even considered Willow/Riley. Huh. I wanted Willow/Buffy once Tara died, but sure that was ever gonna happen. And as for dirty!angry!sex, well... i think we all know where i stand on that. *winky wink*
Scrubs: I'm only at S4. I looove Dr Cox, and have a similar reaction to Carla as i did for the Trio.
I've never made it through enough Firefly and Angel to offer opinions, but don't worry, they're on my list. CSI will probably also get a look in.
