1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, or your favorite kind of sandwich, maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.
my questions were from
mireille719:
1. What's your favorite memory of your summer in Japan?
wow there are almost too many to pick, you know? I think it has to be the afternoon Megan and I spent at the Imperial Iris Gardens in Yoyogi Koen. It's this huge field of iris tucked in between the trees, and we spent the afternoon snapping pictures and drinking in the beautiful sunlight that filtered down to the flowers.
2. What music do you listen to when you want something cheerful?
I listen to silly music - things like Presidents of the United States of America. Or this "twee" band that our friend introduced us to named Tullycraft. They're sorta jangly and goofy and have songs like "Rumble with the Gang Debs" and stuff like that. It makes me smile.
3. How did you find fandom?
I'd actually been given a theory book by the boyfriend for Christmas one year called ... "Reading the Vampire Slayer" I think. In it there was this essay on femslash and what they thought was particularly progressive about women writing for women/about women/etc. And I was like, "there's written porn on the web about buffy? really? I've got to find some of that!" so I found some links for Buffy/Faith and then some yahoo lists, and then for some reason read a couple of Buffy/Giles and found buffygiles.com and ... that was it. I was in.
4. You have to give up either music or TV. Which do you choose?
EEEK! NOT EITHER! I'd actually probably give up music. I love music, but i'm a really haphazard listener - i don't remember song lyrics, i tend to forget band names, and i have a ton of trouble with individual musicians, even when I've been listening to the band for 10 or so years. But TV? Cooking channel? I'd probably go through withdrawal. (now, even though I'm being honest about that, which would would I like to miss the least? TV)
5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Right now? Tokyo or Nice, France. I know, totally two different places. But Tokyo satisfied all of my city urges AND included all these beautiful spaces within the city, because that's just how the Japanese roll. But Nice has always been a dream - french countryside, beautiful beaches, books, wine, wonderful people... mmmmm.

lostgirlslair's questions
1) Of all your fanart, which is your favorite?
OMG this is the hardest question EVER! I know for sure that I'm still trying to create an icon I'm proud of, so it wouldn't be that, but could I pick one for each category? LIke a fav wall, fav banner?
ack. ok, one. I'd have to pick this wallpaper of Giles:
http://pics.livejournal.com/katekat1010/pic/0031xx5x
there, i decided. oh the horror!
2) If you could only read three books in the next year, what three would they be? (Rereading counts, too!)
- HMM. The Last Samurai by Helen DeWitt (I try to read it at least once a year and no, it has nothing to do with the movie)
- Monkey Brain Sushi edited/collected by Alfred Birnbaum
- Toddler Hunting and other stories by Kono Taeko
3) Of all the meals you had while in Japan, which was your favorite?
MMM. I actually have 2 favorites - one was the chicken curry (not hot) and fresh nan from the Himalayan Curry shop in Sangobashi. We ate there at least once a week and I'm STILL not tired of it. And the second was at a Yakiniku restaurant where we had an amazing array of scrumptious food - most of which I still don't know which part of the animal it was from. But it was good and for sure I know we ate tongue.
4) What's your favorite 'guilty pleasure' fic?
ok, i have two:
Fluking (B/G, NC17)
Oh Dear (S/X, NC17)
5) What do you like best about your house?
That it actually feels like *home* when I get back. And our bedroom. And our bed. It's yummy.
ETA: my answers to
sahiya's questions
1. What was your favorite class you took in the UCSC lit department?
A 2 credit course called Virtual Postmetaphysics with E. Jackson. It was an introduction to theoretical readings of cyberpunk and the first college class that was actually what I thought college classes were going to be like when i dreamed about them as a kid - a bunch of brainy people sitting in chairs in a lounge talking about books.
2. What, in your opinion, is the coolest thing about the Japanese language?
Well, one of my favorite things about Japanese is that the hiragana syllabilary was actually women's writing in the earlier centuries - so the modern form of the language (that uses hiragana & kanji to express Japanese thoughts) is based on the communication styles of women.
3. What's the best pair of shoes you've ever owned?
These sexy little black thin-healed (but not stilleto)s that I bought for $90 at a DSW. They were kenneth coles and I loved them and wore them to pieces. I miss those shoes.
4. What'd you do before you went back to school?
Oh, there are a lot of years in there! Most of them I was an hr person/receptionist/office manager for various .com companies that failed. But right before I went back I spent a couple years doing print marketing/benefits booklets for a deferred compensation company. It truly was working for the man.
5. Where do you usually go to buy books and how has it earned your loyalty?
I am a book slut, which means I go everywhere... and as far as loyalty goes I've cheated on every major chain with every other (and online chains as well). These days I try to buy from Barnes and Noble even when online because more of their political donations are to liberal causes (instead of Amazon, who primarily donates to conservative ones). Guess it's politics that sometimes get me. ;)

Date: 2007-08-31 10:15 pm (UTC)and i'm sorry it's taken me so long to give you questions! School overwhelmed me for a little bit. But now:
1) What is one of your most favorite comfort S/B fics?
2) Do you remember how/why you got into S/X? What was that process like?
3) What's your favorite age of your little ones?
4) When you eat out, no matter what the restaurant, is there an item/food you always have to order if it's on the menu?

Date: 2007-08-26 07:25 pm (UTC)I want five questions, please, but I'm not re-posting the meme--it's still up for anyone who wants to ask me for questions, of course. :)

Date: 2007-08-31 10:19 pm (UTC)and now, onto the questions:
1) What's your favorite kind of chocolate?
2) What is your most favorite/pleasant recurring dream?
3) Is there a btvs pairing that you really want to write but you never have?
4) What's your favorite time of day to talk to Sofy? ;)
5) What heroine do you most consider yourself most like, or who would you most like to be like (can be completely obscure)?
no subject
Date: 2007-09-01 12:45 am (UTC)2. I almost never remember my pleasant dreams--I wake up knowing I've had them, but not really recalling details--and I don't think I've ever had a pleasant recurring dream. All my recurring dreams fit somewhere in the category of "bad" (though not necessarily nightmares--things like dreaming that I'm about to get my M.Ed., but then being told that I can't get it until I finish fifth grade (which I skipped), so I have to spend a year going to middle school. At thirty-six years of age.)
3) I can't think of one off the top of my head. There are some BtVS pairings I haven't written that I probably *will* write, one day, because at some point I'm going to get assigned them in a ficathon *g*, but I can't think of anything that I'd really like to write that I haven't written at least a drabble about. (And from a rough count, there are 37 different Buffyverse pairings on my website, and I know there are several other pairings I've drabbled about on LJ and not put there, so it's over 40 in total. If I had any real desire to write it, I probably already have).
4) First thing in the morning, right after I wake up. Which requires her being here. ;)
5) I want to be Harriet Vane, thank you very much. *g*
