katekat: (buffy - summertime)

Two weeks of no classes!  Huzzah!

I made it through the end of summer school by the skin of my teeth.  First, there was the Saturday exam at 9 am for International Politics (or International Relations, or whatever you'd like to call it).  The exam where the TA locked the exams in his office and couldn't get them out.  The exam where our Professor showed up an hour late.  The exam that, in the end, consisted of 5 short IDs.  The exam that, I've just found out this very minute, the Proessor decided to automatically grant every person in the class 50 points (out of 100 total).  The examp that I just got a 93 on.  BWWWA.  That was, without a doubt, one of the greatest wastes of time I've ever had to put up with (as far as classes go).  On the other hand, the Professor gave us all 50 extra points, and the last quiz (out of 2) was to write down the color of her skirt.  And I did end up reading quite a bit of that Soft Power book.  I may be shaking my head, but hey, it's summer, right?

On the other hand, there was this paper due today for my 60s lit class that I whipped up out of iced tea and conversations with [livejournal.com profile] lostgirlslair and [livejournal.com profile] mrtwstedwhsprs.  I've never done anything like it, and I probably won't ever again, but it was fun and frightening at the same time.  I did metacommentary.  On myself.  We'll see how that works out.  And at least I got the pleasure of sitting around with my professor in his office this afternoon, chatting about what he's doing with his classes next semester and talking about authors.  If ever there was a cool dude, he's it.  I will officially miss that class, quizzes and all.

So the rest of the weekend, the parts not spent on schoolwork or (mostly) school-related conversation, went something like this:

On Thursday I dyed my hair red.  Then discovered Friday that I'd missed some spots.  So, re-dyed it Saturday.  Went to a party at Christy's, which was fabulous, goofy, and wonderful all rolled into one evening.  Smoked too much, drank too much, woke up dehydrated and muzzy headed on Sunday to face a day of paper writing.  Luckily I also got to have coffee with the two wrascals mentioned above, and not only did we goof around for many hours, they really did help me with my papers.  How's that for a little help from one's friends.  Spent most of the night last night finishing the thing, hoping against hope that all of my weird little attempts at being amusing and thoughtful were as witty and profound as I thought they were at three o'clock in the morning.

Now I sit, letting time build up on Tivo for the two-hour season finale of Hell's Kitchen, and for some reason think Julian.  Possibly it's the chef aspect.  Could just be that I made salami-egg-cups on Saturday, and since that's a legacy of his, I can't help the association.

I assume the next two weeks will fly by as fast as this entire summer has, and then we'll be into fall - homework, Japanese, weddings, holidays and all.

Actually, I looked it up on Wikipedia when I got home. No surprises there.
