i really wish money grew on trees

although then I might forget to water the trees, and they wouldn't sprout, or something.

I don't quite know what's happening with my finances this summer - sure, I've got a job, it's bringing me money, and it's enough to live on, sorta.  But since I'm a 1099 contractor I have to put at least 25% of it into savings to pay my taxes.  25%s a big chunk.  And for some reason financial aid has been more confusing this year, not less, and I'm frustrated by my constant calls to the financial aid office.  And their constant lack of true help.  All they do is tell me to wait, just a little longer.  When waiting seems to go absolutely nowhere.

Luckily there seems to be some change in the Pell grant system, and I may actually qualify for a Pell grant this year.  Which would be a HUGE help, since Bush's change in the current funding laws seemed to have changed the amount of financial aid I qualify for.  Apparantly Japanese is considered one of the 'critical' languages, still.  Who am I to argue with that kind of a government position?

This entire summer's been a bit of a waiting game that way - I think things are clearing up, the clouds are parting, everything is going to be fine, but then get stuck in a waiting pattern again.

But the worst part about all of this is that I can't do things I'd planned to - buy plants for the garden, buy some new clothes, fix up my car, you know, things that require money.

Finances make me want to puke. Even though I'm already qualified to get the new SMART grant, my financial aid has been drastically reduced too (by about $1,000). And I have the IRS coming after me for $1,500: money that I don't owe. My dad screwed something up on his taxes, but he's on vacation now so he can't take care of the problem immediately. *Pulls out hair* Good news about the "critical" language thing, though. I think that might have something to do with the Japanese trying to amend Article IX of the Japanese Constitution - the "no war" clause - which would bring Japan back on the military map. Good news for me!

Good luck babe. Oh my god anything to do with money completely destroys my brain. I've spent all of this evening feeling sick about it, and I live at home, don't pay for anything rent-etc wise and really don't have anything to panic about. I have NO IDEA what I'm going to be like when I'm grown up enough to move out etc. aaargh!
