It was a dark and stormy night...

No, seriously.  We had national weather service warnings and everything.  Here's our NSA Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

It meant that the sky was filled with blue flame, flickering off and on with rain that swirled and trees that bent and swayed like they were dancing to some unearthly rhythm.  It was mesmerising.  We turned off all the lights and shut down all the machines and sat in our window seat, awed at the beauty.

It's stormed a good half dozen times since I've come back to Tennessee and, man, I forgot how much I love the low rumble of thunder and the brilliant flash of lightning. Oregon gets rain but no storms to speak of.

Yeah, it's one thing people in the midwest seem to be confused about - that the storms in the west aren't *storms* ... it's hard to explain to people who haven't seen both - but california totally does what Oregon does ... there's rain, and there's thunder, but there's not *THIS*. It's too cool.
