Wow, Upstream Color does look really good. I'll never see it in a theater though. Mainly because I rarely get out to the theater and it's not something I think the hubby would enjoy. I'll have to catch it on Netflix or something.
Man of Steel isn't out yet. I don't know. I watched the trailer and got excited for it... and I mean really excited for it. I'll probably go see it in the theater because I can take the kids. I think the Christopher Reeve movies were to "50's" if that makes sense. "Golly, Gee, Lois..." And I really couldn't get into it as a kid. I did like the early seasons of Smallville. I liked the idea of understanding more of where Clark Kent came from and how he became Superman. Then it got a bit all too unrealistic for me and I quit watching.
I liked the way that Christopher Nolan rescued the Batman franchise. Here you have a young man who's parents were killed and he goes off as a young adult to find himself. I don't see how Clark Kent is any different than Bruce Wayne in that manner. Jonathan Kent dies and Clark goes off to find out more about himself and eventually his birth parents. Bruce Wayne is probably the angstiest of the Superheroes. Anyway, I think Nolan can rescue Superman and make him more interesting. Is Superman one of my favourite superheroes? Not at all, but I'd like to see a modern take and I think if anyone can fix the franchise and make it appealing to a modern society, I think Nolan can.
