I'm back!!!!

The awesome miracle workers at my local computer repair actually ... wait for it ...

repaired my computer.

and didn't charge me an arm and a leg even though they had to pop open the case and solder little bitty wires together.  No more dropping my computer for me, because I was literally terrified they weren't going to be able to make it go again.  And even though I'd backed up most things, it still would have crippled me in lots of ways.

So, now that I am released from paralyzing fear (trust me, contemplating having to do all your research, download all your work at the library, and write all your papers at school in said library is horrible for someone who is as much of a home body as i am, and that's to say nothing of the *other* million dumb things i do every day on the computer), I'm feeling quite pleased with the world and it's inhabitants.  More on classes later, since they started last week.
