katekat: (b/g - in the library)
Ok, so i'm not going to the ceremony where they have you move your tassel (because it's open to every graduating student, undergrad and graduate, and that's like at least 5,000 students).  BUT, I went to the other one this morning where they awarded me my hood!

pictures forthcoming(ish), but it was great fun, and one of the other women from the department (south asia side but still) was there so we sat together and made sure we looked pretty when we went out on stage.  I could hear my mom screaming from the audience when I walked across (the lights were a little bright to actually see).  It was all of the hurry-up-and-wait-in-lines that you'd expect from a graduation, but overall great fun, and only a couple of hours, and I kind of feel like I really did finish my master's now.

We went out for fantastic brunch afterwards (we were all amazingly hungry because the 'champagne toast' at the alumni center right after the ceremony only served popcorn and jawbreakers ... seriously!  and we ran out of the house this morning at 7:30 without having done anything but suck down a bit of coffee), with challah french toast, and portabello eggs benedict, and fresh croissants.  mmmm.

so yeah, it's done!  and celebrated!  and all of that!
