on kafka on the shore
Aug. 7th, 2007 01:11 pmI'm almost scared to pick up another book. Just finished Umibe no Kafuka (Kafka On The Shore by Murakami). I miss his short stories - novel length is probably too much for me (or was at the time) for that kind of enui. Maybe that's why I like the postmodernists so much. They at least had a sense of play and fun and light. Murakami does too, don't get me wrong, but in a sort of absurdist way that would make another person laugh, but not me.
( There are some oedipal myths that don't need exploring )
At this point, I'd prefer some laughter. Not that I've anything harrowing going on, or any mind melding crisis. Nothing like that. Just... sometimes I do fall into the freshman lit student trap of wanting something FUN to read instead of all that depressing stuff. I'm sure I'll get out of it once I'm back in classes and can *talk* about the things I'm reading.
