not a good kitten day

Neil took Felix to the vet's this morning when she woke up - she's been through 'episodes' before with us, where she vomits for a couple of days, then recovers (and trust me, we've run her to the vet's then, but they generally have been able to tell us nothing, or dire things like she's gonig to live for three more months - and that was about a year and a half ago) but this time she got too dehydrated.

Too dehydrated and weak and so he took her in, and at six tonight we went to pick her up and take her to the emergency overnight pet hospital since that's what you do when your pet hasn't recovered.  She was a little more hydrated - enough to put on .09 lbs - but not enough to stop worrying or to take her home or anything like that.  Instead they measured her temperature and found that it was going down (also not a good thing for cats), so they immediately got her into an incubator and put her back on the iv so that she can continue hydrating and so she can get her temp back up.

So we had to stick our hands through the holse of the incubator to say bye tonight.  And, in a more hopeful thought, when we did see her she was sitting up and more aware than she had been before, so hopefully the warmth and the fluids are working.

It's her 13th birthday today.

we called, but we didn't get to speak with the intern that is actually watching her - just the guy at the desk - and his exact words: "she's doing fine" apparently they're going to keep her in the incubator all night, so she'll stay warm and cozy.

Thank you lady - i appreciate it. And yeah, i hope that she is finally starting to respond to the hydratation - just called a little bit ago and they said "she's doing fine" so that's a good. They're keeping her in the incubator so at least she's all snuggly and warm. *clings* *hugs*

thank you lady - you're totally right - one of the hardest parts is leaving them behind. we really really hate it, especially since it's like there's a felix-shaped hole in the house now that she's not here. but we just called the vet and they said she was "doing fine" so hopefully the hydration is working.

This is completely random. Didn't you, quite a while back, have some sort of eye infection, orba cut on your eye? I've got and infected cut in the corner of my left eye and . . . ouch. And ick. If it was you with a similar problem, how long did it take yours to clear up? And did they give you eyedrops that felt like liquid fire?

i did have a scratch on my eye - and they gave me antibiotics and another kind of thing to put in it ... it took about 48 hrs for the pain to go down to something tolerable... i hope for you that's already happened, since it's taken me forever to respond to comments? *hugs*

and ... it's still hard to write... we had to put Felix to sleep on Saturday. She had a number of problems (pancreas stuff, kidney stuff, and what was probably advanced cancer in her intestines) and basically it was the kindest, hardest, most heart wrenching thing we've ever had to do. We've both spent the last couple of days in mourning, but we're slowly getting better.

thank you dear lady. It really was the most heartwrenching decision I think I've ever had to make. Neil, who does not get emotional (he's very much a man that way) and I cried so much. She will always be loved, and always be missed. *hugs*
