I will extrapolate further; it seems to me like the instructor wants to weed out and discourage those who think a class expressly interested in aliens is an easy couple of credits.

But, that's just me. I could be wrong. Teacher deserves a reality check, in any event. If he's got a brain in his skull -- not likely -- he will appreciate the constructive criticism.
